RON SMITH AERIALS

OUR HISTORY

We have been in the TV and FM aerial business since 1964. In 1971 we opened the Aerial Shop in Luton England. Soon after stereo transmissions were first introduced into the UK on Radio 3 in 1972 requiring more critical designs, we found the 'Arrow' designs we used on TV gave good results with radio too. We actually made a 20 element array at FM frequencies, 5 times the size of the TV version. This array was over 20 feet (6 meters) long, 7 feet (2 meters) high and very flexy, but it proved the point and resulted in the 'Arrow' FM range of sixteen models. Then in the mid Seventies circular and mixed polarity transmissions were introduced for the first time, for which we developed a circular dipole, this lead to circularly polarized arrow aerials then finally our current 'Galaxie' and 'Orion' ranges. The modular format incorporated into each of our ranges is a direct result of our experience on installation work and saves any waste on your DIY choice as you can easily upgrade your original purchase. Frame dimensions have been maintained over the last 20 years so that any part can be replaced regardless of age. Today we can supply all our radio arrays. We can also build special one off aerials too and give advice and support to the end customer doing their own installation, this know how, together with our tried and tested range of FM Aerials, will make your aerial installation a success.

OUR PRODUCTS

All our aerials, are designed and manufactured by us. The main material used is 15mm square aluminium alloy with half inch round seam welded tube used for dipoles and three eighth inch butt seamed tube for reflector and director elements on the FM arrays. The Galaxie and Orion ranges have twin mast clamps for greater security. The aerials are modular within their own ranges, you can order additional items at any time in the future to upgrade the aerial should you need more signal. We maintain frame and element styles and sizes so that repairs are possible regardless of the age of the aerial both these services are provided without additional costs over the standard full arrays apart from carriage charges. We are one of the only companies offering an AM radio aerial. It is in fact an AM/FM whip aerial of the type once popular on cars. We extend the existing coaxial lead which in fact forms part of the aerial's circuitry and fit a clamp to enable mast fixing. This aerial is the only true omnidirectional fixed array and will give limited FM results, as well as improved AM reception. We supply or recommend only items we have personally installed many times which have proved effective and reliable on literally tens of thousands of installations all over the U.K. over a period of many years.
